New York State Parent Education Awareness Program [PEAP]
Welcome to the New York State Parent Education and Awareness Program (NYS PEAP)!
The goal of PEAP is to provide helpful information to married or unmarried parents as they adjust to changes in their family due to divorce or separation. You have been directed here because the Supreme Court Justice, Family Court Judge, or Family Court Judicial Officer overseeing your divorce or separation thinks that you would benefit from attending a parent education class.

PEAP OPTIONS
PEAP is offering two options for you to choose from. While you must choose one of these two options, the choice you select is solely up to you. Please read the information below to learn about each PEAP option before making your choice.
OPTION #1: ATTEND A PEAP PROGRAM BY PARTICIPATING IN A PILOT STUDY
PEAP is partnering with Arizona State University on a pilot study for divorcing and separating parents that are interested in volunteering to attend a pilot study parenting program and offering feedback about whether the program helped them navigate the changes in their family life. The pilot study will examine whether the program was effective in building supportive relationships with their children, creating a stable home environment, and maintaining healthy parental functioning and well-being.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: To participate in the study, a parent must:
- “opt in” to the study
- read and sign an informed consent form
- submit an online survey prior to attending the program
- attend the assigned parent education program
- and submit two additional online surveys:
- the second survey, taken one month after attending the program.
- and the third survey, taken six months after attending the program.
FURTHER DETAILS: By participating in this pilot study, parents will attend the online program at no cost. For parents that would like to participate but do not have access to the necessary technology, the pilot study team will provide them with pre-programmed devices containing the program. The identities of participating parents will not be shared with anyone, including the other parent, the court or the judge, or the public. After attending the program, you will receive a Certificate of Completion that you can present to the court representative(s).
The link to register for this program is at the bottom of the page.

OPTION #2: ATTEND A CERTIFIED PEAP PROGRAM AND DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE PILOT STUDY
Parents that would like to attend a program and receive a Certificate of Completion without participating in the pilot study can choose a certified in-person or online PEAP program in the county of their choice by contacting the program and registering to attend. A list of the certified PEAP providers is available in the “Resources” section below.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE: To attend a certified PEAP program, parents will be required to:
- Contact a program from the list of certified PEAP providers in the county of their choice.
- Speak to the program administrator and, depending on your situation:
- Inform the program about your concerns regarding domestic violence and/or safety to learn more about the program if this applies to you.
- Learn more about the program offered, including whether the program is in-person or online, and what the cost of the program will be. Inform the program administrator if you are unable to pay the full fee.
- Register to attend the program
- Attend the program and receive a Certificate of Completion.
FURTHER DETAILS: Certified PEAP programs may charge parents a fee of no more than $100 to attend the program, but are required to offer a reduced fee or no fee based on the parent’s inability to pay. If you are a victim of domestic violence and/or you do not feel safe attending a parent education program, then contact a certified parent education program located in the county of your choice, and explain your situation to the program administrator, who can assist you. In order to protect your safety, you will be permitted to not attend the program and will receive a Certificate of Completion from the program.
